mother said she's headed to court after her son was bullied at a Northland school. Terri Newton said her 12-year-old son, Blayne, was pushed to the ground at New Mark Middle School. She said the bully pressed a pair of scissors against Blayne's neck and threatened to kill him. It happened before the end of the school year. Newton said she heard about the attack when a sergeant with the Clay County Sheriff's Department called her. "The sergeant called me to see if I wanted to press charges, and that's how I found out about it," Newton told KMBC's Jere Gish. Blayne said the attack at the school came out of nowhere. "The kid walked over, grabbed a pair of scissors out of the bucket, pointed them at another kid, then walked toward me. (He) shoved me to the ground and put a scissors to my neck," Blayne said. "What's going through your mind at that point?" Gish asked. "I was scared," Blayne said. The 12-year-old said two other students pulled the boy off him. He said he never had an argument with his attacker. In the police report, the boy said he didn't know why he did it. "I'm scared to death. I fear for his safety. If he would have slipped, it would have gone into his neck," Newton said. The boy was suspended out of school for 10 days. Newton said she's pressing charges. "In my perfect scenario, I'd like to see the child taken out of the school. He needs to be put into another school," Newton said. Blayne said after the boy was suspended, he threatened him again. Blayne said he's not scared, but his mother said she is. "I worry every day when I send him off to school," Newton said. "We need to stand up as a community and make our school safer for the kids." A court hearing was scheduled in the case last week, but it was postponed when the student's lawyer didn't show up. A school official said the school apologized for not contacting Newton about the incident. He said it was a communication breakdown. Both boys will be starting seventh grade at New Mark Middle School.
