This is Zez Confrey's 1921 Novelty Piano Solo Greenwich Witch published by Jack Mills. This video is me practicing my unperfect and unfinished arrangement - I'm working on this piece and have a few months of practicing before I plan to perform it. I know there are numerous mistakes and pauses - I will eventually post a better version of this (sometime within the next two months) Zez Confrey was one of the few novelty pianists to have many successful pieces (Kitten on the Keys, Dizzy Fingers, Stumbling, etc.) and this lesser played novelty borrows a lot from his more famous Kitten On The Keys. Many novelties such as this one used KOTK's popular rag progression while keeping the treble busy with riff based novelty fun. Other examples of rags that borrow from the KOTK framework are Mah Jong by Sid Reinherz, Upright And Grand by Frank Banta and Peter De Rose and Nickel in the Slot by Zez Confrey. Enjoy the video - and look forward to more novelty videos coming soon.

Issued by Robbins-Engel, it has the distinction of being one of the most challenging novelties ever put down on paper during the novelty era. I personally consider it the apotheosis of the American Piano Novelty. ...
This is Max Kortlander's novelty piano solo 'Red Clover' published by Jack Mills in 1923 but probably written years earlier (anywhere from 1918-1921 is my guess). This is one of Kortlander's highly stylized rags to be published in the 1920s. This is an unrehearsed duet played by Andrew Barrett ...
This is Charley Straight's 1916 foxtrot entitled Hot Hands, which was published by Jerome Remick & Co. Charley Straight is now beginning to be acknowledged by most ragtime historians as 'the inventor of the novelty piano style' as opposed to Zez Confrey. Straight's compositions, which number close ...
Here is an excerpt of me playing Zez Confrey's 1921 novelty - Kitten On The Keys. This was the novelty that gained national attention and started the all-too-short novelty piano years. Amongst the greatest novelty piano composers were Charley Straight, Roy Bargy, Arthur Schutt, Lothar Perl, Zez ...
