Man, 62, Charged With Statutory Sodomy

Jackson County prosecutors and police are seeking the public's help in identifying potential victims of a man accused of sex crimes. Jamie B. McPherson, 62, of Independence, is charged with two counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree involving two boys, ages 7 and 8. The charges were filed after a woman told police that her 8-year-old son had been forced to perform a sexual act on an older man. According to court documents, the boy told investigators that he would spend the night at McPherson's house with two friends and that often there were a lot of younger boys who spent the night with McPherson. "Mostly boys -- he hardly ever kept girls. He keeps boys and they'd go to church and stuff with him," neighbor Shawna Saing told KMBC. McPherson, who retired from the Postal Service in Lexington, was taken into custody. According to court documents, he admitted having the boys spend the night at his home, but denied any wrongdoing. KMBC reported that McPherson was also a volunteer with the Cub Scouts. McPherson's bond was set at $250,000. Investigators said that they suspect there are other potential victims.
