Everything is consciousness, the Lord, experiencing itself. It can be at rest within itself or it can move around as the attention, getting involved in notions, and notions of perception. It can also be understood as prana. Notions, "objects", are the results of the cognitive process. We start to say "I experience this." The "aperture of Brahma". When the life-force is directed towards here then the past and the future will be perceived. Is this of interest to the spiritual practitioner? The attention gets caught up in notions of the past and future. The self is to the body as the fragrance is to the flower. The self is to the body as the nectar is to the moon. It's what directs us to our immortal essence and feeds this realisation. The self if to the body as the essence is to the herb. The self is that which by the characteristics of everything is known. The self is to the body as coolness is to ice. This could be understood as dispassion or equanimity. There is friendship or attachment in the body. There is a tendency to want to connect, engage. This is not wrong in itself. It's a matter of how we go about it. The self is to the body as fire is to wood. It is hidden inside waiting to burn the notions that obscure it. The self is the light that illumines everything. It is the momentum of the mind. It is the heat and light of self-knowledge.
