Filmmaking exercise 1: Realistic gunshot

Step 1: record the actual shot. If you don't have a gun that actually fires something, you can use an airsoft gun. Step 2: you need an explosion fx to make it look real. You can do it using 3dsmax for example. A 5 frame long explosion is just what you need. This one was created using 2 fire effects (a yellow fireball with a long white flame in the middle) and an omni light which kinda flashes (exposure goes up to 3x then back to normal) for 4 frames right when the explosion happens. Step 3: find the perfect shot sound. I made this one mixing three sounds (shotgun, .45 Colt, simple bomb explosion). Step 4: the "victim" is outside the picture, so to make him appear on the film, we need his crying sounds. You can do it yourself easily. Remember to pan this voice to the right direction. Step 5: the sound of the falling body is easy to produce, I used a door shutting sound this time. Step 6: since the original sound is long gone, you have to create some ambience. Record something that goes with the scene (city sounds with high frequencies cut, because we are indoor). Step 7: the idea of using a blood splatter on the wall just came to me when I finished the film. Used a simple bitmap found on the web. A more sophisticated idea is some blood drips on the camera lens (out of focus), maybe v2.0 will have that too. That's it, this can be done in less than 2 hours.
