Cleone, California— Monday, October 6, at about 9 a.m. Fort Bragg Fire Department was dispatched to an explosion and fire near Highway 1 and Mill Creek Drive in Cleone. As of Tuesday at 4 p.m., Jay Sallinen, of Fort Bragg is alive and recovering at UC Davis Medical Center, with burns over 30 percent of his body. According to his family, he is doing better and breathing on his own. The explosion destroyed one house and damaged two others. CAL Fire investigators attribute the cause to "propane in the structure," but have yet to determine what ignited it. More details to follow in the Oct. 9 issue of the Advocate-News.
