Equal parts Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan, Rahsaan Patterson brings a dramatic flair to soul singing unlike noone else in the field. Although Patterson voice may sound like it has more estrogen than testosterone, he can sing you AND your momma under a table... with no apologies. His vocals are so vibrant and ad-libs so free-flowing that you would think the man has been honing his craft since the day he was born... "Mama... I don't have time for you to cut the ambilical chord... I gotta write me a SONG!" Now, considering that I'm a moderate fan of Mr. Patterson, you would think that I had been keeping up with his oeuvre over the years. But... I haven't. Yeah, I know... bad. But what was I to do? He took freakin' 5 years to release After Hours! I still don't own it. I need to get it so that I can review the rest of the songs on the album. I hadn't properly owned one of his albums since 1999's Love In Stereo. And that was AGES ago. I not sure how I came across this song, but I thought it was pretty cool. It has kind of a D'Angelo/Prince, shimmery, funky vibe to it. I was actually trying to upload "You're The Only One For Me", but I came to the conclusion that I didn't have it. So that'll have to come later. For now, y'all can enjoy this soulful little gem.
